The hydrocarbon wax is converted to gas as it burns. The actual chemical reaction is complicated, but can essentially be thought to convert to methane with Oxygen and then burned into CO2.

The candle is made of solid paraffin wax which is a mixture of heavy hydrocarbon compounds and, as such the wax is a fuel when melted and vaporised.
The heat from the burning wick slowly melts and vaporises the candle wax and the flame draws the vapours into the wick so maintaining the flame.
As the wax slowly vaporises and burns in the process, the candle burns down.

(The wax itself doesn't burn, only the vapours produced by the heat of the flame, will burn and the vapour consists of heavy hydrocarbons, (C20H42 to C40H82), NOT methane. ).

the wax in the candle and the oxygen in the atmosphere are the fuels for a candle. when you lite a candle it burns them both. without either the candle will burn out. the wax is burned away. a phys reaction occures where the wax is converted to a gas. this happens because the molcules start moving faster and separate.

The wax oxidizes in the flame to yield water and carbon dioxide, which dissipate in the air around the candle, in a reaction which also yields light and heat

it gets burned it the air
hold a pot over the candle
youll see black on the pot

and little dustpieces get blown into the air
