Proof:

Take two standard line equations:

y = mx + b and y = mx + c

When x = 0, y = b or c. This is the y intercept for the two lines, and by your defined conditions b does not equal c.

Now, check the x intercepts:

x = (y - b) / m and x = (y - c) / m

When y = 0, x = -b/m or -c/m. Since m (the slope) is the same for both, and b does not equal c, we find that -b/m cannot equal -c/m and therefore the the x intercepts must not be equal to each other.

In plane geometry, one rule states that of two lines have the same angle they are parallel and can never intersect. Therefore, the x intercept will have the same distance between them as the difference of the y intercept. No intersection, not the same intercept on either line unless they intersect at any given point, then they will be the same line.

I'm no expert either, but common sense tells me that two lines with the same slope are parallel and will therefore never intersect, so my INITIAL answer to your question is NO.

But a math teacher told me many years ago that all lines eventually intersect. Huh? I said. And he said something about the curvature of the earth or whatever. So, my SECONDARY answer is WHO KNOWS?

My FINAL answer is that I guess it depends on what level of math you are studying. In lower level courses, I guess the answer NO would be accepted (because two parallel lines aren't supposed to intersect), but in higher math, the stuff researchers delve into, maybe YES is an acceptable answer.

No, they are parallel to each other but they are separated by a certain distance. It means they cannot have the same x intercepts.

Not in two-dimensional plane geometry - no.

The are parallel lines. If they don't meet on the y-axis they won't on the x-axis either.
