Christmas has very little to do with Jesus...never has. Christmas is about peace, always has been.

THIS song is about Vietnam. The lyrics are based on a campaign in late 1969 by Lennon and Ono, who rented billboards and posters in eleven cities around the world that read: "WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It) Happy Christmas from John and Yoko". At the time the US was deeply entrenched in the unpopular Vietnam War. The line "War is over, if you want it, war is over, now!", as sung by the background vocals, was taken directly from the billboards.

The song means a lot now because of the struggles in Iraq. We can sing all the carols we want, but it won't stop a single person from dying on Christmas day. Children are being slaughtered as we westerners sit around celebrating Jesus' birthday by eating dead birds and opening useless gifts purchased with money that could be going toward something positive in the world.

So, no, Christmas isn't about Jesus...it isn't about presents...it isn't about some fat man breaking into your house to eat all your cookies either. Christmas, if it should mean anything at all, should be about bringing peace to the world and ending this stupid occupation. It should be about bringing our soldiers home so they can spend the holidays with their families. I'm sure they'd gratefully stand in line at the airport without complaint for a chance to see their families while we civilians moan and groan because we can't have our instant gratification. So this Christmas, return your gifts to from whence they came and use the money to help an Iraqi child in need. Bring an end to this "war" and sing along loudly with John and Yoko...WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It)

Far and away one of my favorite all time songs!

I don't think John Lennon really spoke a lot about the meaning of Christmas as I understand it, but Christmas has taken on a life of its own apart from the celebration of the birth of the Savior.

As we move further and further away from the ability to even wish someone a Merry Christmas without causing an inter-cultural tumult, I think the best strategy (at least for me) is to celebrate it as what I know it to be and let others celebrate it as what they know it to be.

Merry Christmas!

Yes, I did look at the video. Here's my meaning of Christmas:

"Beneath the colored lights and noise,
The shopping frenzy and the ads,
The TVs’ touting “must have” toys,
The crowds, the Musak, this year’s fads,
Beneath all that, unsullied still,
By all the shrill commercial lures,
The Christmas prayer of goodwill,
Of peace and brotherhood endures.

And even though it often seems
That Santa has replaced the Child,
That elves and reindeer reign supreme,
That Christmas Day has been defiled,
Within each soul, so deep and true,
The meaning of the season lives.
And every year we learn anew
How blessed is the one who gives.

Yet what we search for in the mall,
And what we place under our trees
Has no importance, none at all
The things themselves are not what please.
Instead it is because they show
The love that presents represent.
Receiving them, we come to know
How much our being there has meant.

And when we give, it is a part
Of ourselves that we want to share.
Each gift is sent forth from the heart
To show how very much we care.
At Christmas time we bring to mind
What we should know throughout the year,
That we belong to humankind
And we must hold each other dear.

May you have a Joyous and Blessed Christmas

Christmas means to me the coming of Jesues Christ. I also love getting the presents but thats not the meaning. I love getting all dressed up and going to Mass. Celebrating the birth of our Lord. I love it. That is the true meaning of Christmas.

The meaning of Christmas is to be nice to all people, as Jesus was (since he was born on that day). Also, to celebrate the birth of God's son.

I appologise to anyone who is not a Christian.

Merry Christmas!

I think it is different for everyone. I think basically it is all about helping others who are suffering. However it shouldnt just be at Christmas time but all year round.
