What is relatively insignificant about the Earth. Uniquely in our Solar System it has the right conditions for an abundant variety of life and what is 'almost equally insignificant' about the Sun?
How did you scale the Earth and Sun and being insignificant but the Earth being a bit more so? Are you arbitrarily attributing relative values to the Sun and Earth without thinking and without a comparison point. Which planet and sun do you know of which are more significant that the Earth and the Sun and why do you think so.
What 'courage' do you attribute to existance? All life forms on Earth are here without making the choice to come. We are born, we have no say in the matter. We then survive as best we can because we have no other choice except suicide. Then we die. Where is the courage.
Why do people in the philosophy section try to make simple questions far deeper than they are?

The definition of life is an arbitrary thing which rudely excluded fire when it was firmly defined by the scientific community. It is a very dull and basic one. Needs to met a few qualifiers, I think there's 5, needs to reproduce, have cell walls, needs to die, requires the consumption of resources, etc. That is what life is. If you think that is daring you'd be wrong. Furthermore, everything is "natural" depending on what you use as the qualifier. For example Dinosaurs are not natural with the qualifier being that they are not similar to our time period with humans. However, Dinosaurs are natural with the qualifier of looking at the most consistent type of mammalians life here on earth being that humans in comparison have only been around for a very short time.

I think that human life is very valuable because God made us and He has a plan for every person He makes. Yes, the universe is very big, but we can still have an impact on someone or something's life, you just have to figure out what you want to do with your life to impact the world. I hope this helps!!! =D

Without me, you do not exist. It is the perception of every entity that defines the existence of all other entities. When I close my eyes at night the entire universe shrinks to a limitless expanse of dreamscapes into which I descend. The significance therefore of all that we perceive is directly proportionate to the perception. The most exciting scientific discoveries of our age were not even the slightest bit interesting until they were at least hypothesized if not out right discovered. Human life is as natural an extension of self awareness as is all other facets of existence. Good luck and God Bless.

At present for most of us is like life as a battery hen, we are under the control of others. There is no courage in being controlled. Western Humans are domesticated compared to our primative cousins. To eat we just need to go to the supermarket not hunt it, kill it and then eat it. That is survival.
I would suggest that currently - we exist.

It takes a large factory to make a bulb and it takes a big-bang to produce the conditions that make conciousness possible.

i cant really say it's daring, or natural.. instead i think life is too complex to understand. On your way towards achieving an end, life, sometimes, puts a a ravelling twist to it and you wouldn't know which way to go, or turn your back inspite of it all.

I think it would be foolish to generalize from a single instance. We don't know how common or unique life is in the universe, and until we do, your question can't be answered.
