Leave him one last message that if he doesn't come in to get the lockbox within a week, or call you to set up a time to come and get it, you will cut it off and throw it away.
Depending on the type of lockbox, they're worth anywhere from $20 to $100 (for the fancy electronic ones), so if it's important to him, he'll come get it.
If the Realtor is a no show, just remove your door handle and slip the lockbox off. You can throw it away or give it to another Realtor who can use it. Heck, if it's a combination lockbox, and you know the combo, it's worth at least 5 or 10 bucks to someone, so put it on Craigslist.

You have the Realtor (agent) name so look up his license on you state's website under real estate licenses. It will give you a lot of information on that particular person, who is Broker is and if any complaints were against him. Next, write a complaint letter and send it to the board. They will investigate what happened and either reprimand him or suspend his license. Chances are you are not the only one this has happened to. After a year (even earlier) you can do whatever you want with the . You can now file with the courts for moral and ethical issues, non-performance, and you can sue his Broker for the same. His Broker is legally responsible for his actions as well. If you have all your paperwork lined up such as the listing contract,marketing and advertising letters,open house dates,offers and counteroffers you may have received, phone numbers and names of buyers or other agents who may have passed through an open house,etc. Those are what you need to back yourself up in court.

the realtor actually works for a broker. Look on the listing paperwork and see what the company name was.
If you can't find it, see if you can get another realtor to look up your house on the MRIS. It will be in the records. You can find the information for the broker.
The lock box doesn't have any value. I would return it or just keep it in a box for a while.

Depends on what sort of box he left behind. You don't have the combination to open it, or the electronic device required to do the same. The box is worthless to anyone else without that information.
Call the agency for which he worked and explain what has occurred. If the box is electronic, they will have the codes and equipment required to retrieve it. If it's a mechanical pushbutton or rotating dial lock, it's useless unless the combination is available. Cut it off and dispose of it.

Was he with a larger Realtor firm? They might be able to help you. If you are going to use another Realtor they too might. If that is not an option call a lock smith. I am not sure if you can sell it as it is not your property.

i don't know about that... i know he ditched you, but i would ask a professional for advice, like another realtor what they think or a lawyer... you won't want to be sued, but then again, he has no right to leave anything for an undetermined about of time
