I will do it the American way, hand over the heart and all that.
I vow that I will not go into anymore English pubs for ever and ever.
Do you want to no why? I am a non smoker and when they changed the law I was over the moon but the pubs have turned into churches. They are the most miserable places on earth with the most miserable people one can imagine. From now on all the parties that I go to will be held around my place or my friends houses and as far as I am concered they can smoke there silly heads of. At least we we won't get bored.

Very good resolution for your new year. But you are quite drastic about this, a dangerous fellow in your resolution. I cannot say that the pubs have turned into churches. It is never too fair to generalize.

Recently I visited some pub in Newcastle, and there were many nice people in there, old and young, mostly peacefully chatting and enjoying their beers. There even were families with their small children.

Of course I cannot avoid laughing a bit at the pub's mini library with fake books just for show. Anyway, the light in there would be too dim, and the place too crowded for anybody wanting to read in peace.

As for parties, it may even have its good advantages to hold them in one's own more private place. Whether such parties will be boring or not may depend on the degree of liveliness of the participants, no matter whether they will be allowed to smoke or not smoke.

Happy new year to you.

Surely its churches that have been converted into public houses. The current witch hunt against the smoking population is reprehensible. In A part of London Brixton, th eyardies with governmental co-operation have passed a law whereby they can not only smoke tobacco, but cannibis as well. Central London has some wonderful restaurants with back rooms for the smoking of Hashish. The fun is there to be had in London.

Following the brutal snatching away of thr right to dope, weed, the fight against drunkards, and now the vicious and unrelenting hate campaign against ciggie lovers, what can we conclude....I feel you should not take away a comfort zone from thepopulace without offering an alternative and equally intoxicating and blissful mode of mood enhancment....have a very happy new year....Love Peace and Prosperity....

You won't go to English pubs because you are a non smoker and they have banned smoking and non smoking is boring so you will habe parties at home where you will not get bored by non smoking.

OR

The pubs now allow smoking and you are a non smoker and the pubs are filled with miserable smokers who are boring. You will party at home and not be bored because you do not smoke?

Which one is correct? Both are boring and so is the resolution.

Sorry you feel this way, english pubs are usually a laughter filled house.
Smoking isn,t what makes pubs fun, its PEOPLE.
Maybe you should loosen up, and help make your outings fun.
Having a good time at home or at friends is fine, but everyone needs to socialise, and I think eventually either you will wear out your welcome at friends places or vice versa, unless you also learn to make your own fun, loosen up, and become more tolerant of the rules and laws, they are there to make places of fun, a safer place to be.
Get over it.
Make a new years resolution to ENJOY each day, be so glad to be alive and have the a smile instead of a frown, smile and the world smiles with you.

I didn't know they did that to the Pubs over there too. Isn't there anywhere that people can go anymore and have a few smokes with their drinks anymore? The owners must really be hurting.
I don't enjoy going to them anymore either.
I've already started doing what you propose.
Time to open up "Smokers Clubs"

Sounds cool to me. I'm from the states and we're losing a lot of ground here too. I wouldn't be surprised if they made the whole smoking thing illegal.

Not too sure which pubs you go to. But the ones I go to are extremely lively, lots of fun. Oh nearly forgot much more healthier too.

You probably will not get bored, but you may want to add to your resolution, "I will not get so uptight about the little things in life".
