Please go to the nearest Woman's shelter. Then get an order of protection! Please just let him keep the puppy I know you love the puppy but your safety and the safety of your children must come first. You may very well have no other choice but to start over in a new location where he will have no idea where you live. Do you have Sec.8 in your city?

He does not need to be there around your children.
He is not allowed to steal, that is against the law.
You can have someone else he does not know who lives far away from you all take care of the puppy for you until you can retrieve it later so he cannot steal the puppy.
By all means..make sure that when you have these ridiculous conversations with him that the children are NOT present.. when it is time to get him to go, make sure the children are spending the night ( do not tell him where or even that they are not there ) elsewhere. Make sure there is always a witness to these conversations so that if he threatens you or anyone.. you have corroboration. If he threatens you .. immediately have someone else call the police. Do not wait. Then get a court order once he is gone to force him to stay away from you.
While he is gone, get the locks changed..inform the grounds security he is your ex boyfriend and he is not supposed to be there. If the apartment complex office wants to see the court order to keep him away.. show it to them by all means. Move when you get the chance.
In the future.. do not allow anyone but the people you have on your lease to live in your apartment. If you do not have that person on the lease, and are having them pay rent.. I have this feeling if you read the contract you signed.. you have broken the terms you agreed to legally. That opens up a huge problem for YOU if you use government funding for the apartment because you have to abide by any agreements you sign.

I am on goverment housing and I ended up getting married and they didn't even know it. I mean I called the cops a couple of times for battery charges. I ended up getting divorce and I was scared stiff because of my last name change. The housing didn't say one word. All they care about is your income and so forth.
I would kick this jerk out and call the cops to help you with it. Don't get your parents involved. The cops will do better from experiance. You do NOT have to go to court for the puppy. Besides let him take you to court. He is a drunk and no judge would let a puppy live with an abusive jerk.

Bad situations never get better. Why wait until the holiday. Ask your parents to be there, you pack his things and if he refuses to go call the police. If he is a drunk things will most likely get nasty. Ask a neighbour to take care of the children so there is no danger of them being hurt physically or mentally. This is not the time to argue over the dog. You can always get another dog.

What I suggest is for you to do is have his name removed from the lease, if it's on there.
Change the locks on the door.
Have most of his clothing boxed up and any important papers that he needs to at least get by on for a week or so.
Get a restraining order if you need one.
Then pack up the rest of his belongings, and set up a time for him to pick it up. Have the cops there as well in case he becomes violent.
If he wants the dog, then tell him he can take you to court for it. I doubt he'll be able to afford to go.
Good luck, and here's a pat on your back for taking control and getting a drunk out of your lives.

This sounds so much like the Red neck marriage from hell! Listen, don't create an audience to be there to throw him out. That just makes you look like a drama queen. And "IT'S ONLY A FREAKING DOG"! If It would get the jerk out of the house I would tell him to pull up a moving van and take whatever he wants, just as long as he never comes back. A little bit of advice, try looking for a boy friend somewhere else than the local bar! Plus it might be a good idea to go back to school. Nuff said, I don't want to sound too negative, but, girl..... it's very difficult to hold my tongue!

I'm not sure you should put your parents in danger too, but I would definitely have someone else there. Do you have a male friend or brother or someone else that may be intimidating to him?
Unfortunately, the only one that can stop him from taking anything with him is law enforcement, so if you don't want to get the cops involved, you're basically screwed until you take him to court.
Good luck!

RIGHT ON, GO FOR IT!
DO RIGHT AWAY! THAT HEEP OF GARBAGE HAS GOT TO GO, PRONTO!
Take this court and show prrof that he had bought the dog to compensate for the rent and the judge will rule that he either gives you the money or you get to keep the dog.
Since he was such a cheapskate to pay for the rent he would rather you have the dog then to give you any money.

It is just a dog let him have it. It will just make you thing about him it will not help you move on. If your kicking him out get all of him out. One day you and the kids go to the pet store and you all look for a dog for all of you. Then it will be a start of a new life and not some Drunk and his dog. Move on.

I would pack up his belongings and meet him at the door. Is his address listed there, because if it is then you might have trouble getting him out. The cops might not make him leave because he has as much right being there as you. When he leaves for work you might have to change the locks, so he can't get back in.
