Many issues that concern them are not covered in other literature. These papers fill a need and if here is a niche there is a marketer to fill it. Not only are they necessary for "blacks" but any other group that is neglected by the larger society.

It is all about supply and demand. If there is a market for a certain product then it is going to be produced...... that goes for any magazine, newspaper, or television show......and in this case many blacks feel like our views are not portrayed in many of the major magazines, so people come up with something that has a take on our views and things that are going on in our communities. Ebony and Jet were founded in a time were there was alot of racial tensions and blacks were not viewed as respected citizens, so Mr. Johnson came up with the idea for something to get in touch with the black community.....that is the same reason why we have Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Yes they are necessary if they were not making a profit they would be pulled from the shelves. Why did you choose black magazines in particular?

? Well, to compliment ourselves. And for the same reason there are Jewish papers, Latin magazines and shows, Mexican cookbooks... We are all sort of different. Right???

Why not? If there's a readership, why not fill the demand?
