it wouldn't be a problem for me as long as he/she didn't try to use religion as an excuse to be homophobic

Muslims do not agree with the idea of separation of church and state.
This is the most important pillar of representative democracy government.
Remove it and, it opens the way for totalitarian rule, like the governments in all countries where Islam is the prevalent religion.
Edit:
I meant to say there are no REAL democracies in Islamic countries. Representative Democracy and Islam are oil and water to each other. They cannot mix.
Radical Muslims will always infiltrate the government and replace secular rule with religious rule. It may take a little longer in some countries than others but it will always happen.
Separation of church and state is a government doctrine which was borrowed from the religious doctrine of the Pilgrims, a Christian group.
To radical Muslims, this makes the idea Satanic, and makes opposition to it a matter of choosing good over evil.
They will always attack this absolutely necessary pillar of representative democracy and thereby destroy democracy in any Muslim country. It is inevitable.

Ideally I wouldn't want a president with a religious affiliation of any kind, but if this hypothetical Muslim distanced himself enough from Islamic influence or somehow proved he wouldn't bring that crap into his politics like GWB did w/ Jesus, I'd be okay.

You are misusing the term racist. There is a difference between prejudice and racism. With most issues there is a little more "nuance" than most people are willing to acknowledge, and it certainly is not true that someone who would never vote for a Muslim for President is automatically a racist. Very few people are actually racist.

No. At this point in time we do not need a president who's loyalties are possibly split. Whether you like it or not we are at war with Muslim radicals. We would not have elected someone Japanese during WWII.
(Yes I know the difference between a religion and a country, but the same principles apply)

If I believed he would put the country first, and the rights and freedoms of Americans before his religion or personal opinions I guess I would be ok with it. Right now though, I am not.

This question is sickening and many of the answers are sickening. It's a slap in the face to all those who have died in the name of keeping our lifestyle intact. Not just in this war. I'm talking from the Revolutionary War until now.
If it's so bad to live in America, why don't you just pack up and move to a place where you won't feel so guilty to be enjoying a lifestyle that lets you own a computer, plug it in and ask questions on forums like this one.

If this is a veiled question about Barack Obama it is misleading because he belongs to the Christian faith. My personal answer would be that it would make me as uncomfortable as if it were a Jew.Not because of any racism involved on my part;but rather due to their intolerance toward each other.Their distrust and dislike for each other would make me unsure as to their abilities to govern in a multi-religious society. They don't seem to be doing such a good job in the Middle East,do they?If this makes me racist, then so be it.It also makes me a realist.

I would be very comfortable with a Muslim or anybody else as long as the believe in these two things. First, religion as no place in government. That is between a person & his god. Second, He has the good of America at heart, not one political party, as we have now. My belief, Both parties have put their party first, not the nation. With putting the nation second so goes the people, the people are not their first concern.Keeping like minded people in power. POWER is their first concern.
