Yes, they do get hurt with real injuries, but not all the injuries you see on TV, and many of the real injuries you don't see.

The action you see in the ring is semi-scripted. The outcomes are usually pre-determined. Each wrestler had a vocabulary of moves that they can do well, and they work with their opponent before the match to determine how they will play it out. One person has described it as free form jazz improvization of stage combat, as opposed to Hong Kong cinema's carefully choreographed symphonies of violence.

When they hit each other, drop each other, and land on each other, they do try to do it in ways that will minimize injury. Note how they always try to land flat, how seldom a head will actually hit the floor. However they are really being dropped from the heights that it looks like they are dropping from, and that is dangerous. One wrestler has described it as putting your body through a car wreck with every show. Mick Foley has no good vertebrae left, really did rupture an organ and lose two teeth in that "Hell in a Cell" match. HHH really did tear his quadricep. Those leg braces are on Stone cold Steve Austin's legs for a reason.

The blood is really their blood. It is said that they would tape razor blades on the insides of their fingers to cut their foreheads. Whether they still do that I don't know, but when blood happens, it is really the wrestler's blood.

Somtimes a wrestler or a company willhide a real injury so the show can go on. sometimes the company will script in an injury so a storyline can be played, or so that a particular wrestler can take a break, or if they are fired or quit. Sometimes a real injury will occur, and the scriptwiters will write it into the storyline.

The chairs and table are specially made to break easily, and are used with techique to minimise injury, but the wrestlers are really being hit by aluminum chairs and going through wooden tables.

Bottom line: Is wrestling fake? As Bam-Bam bigelow once said, is Ballet fake? Did the wrestler just really hit his opponent with all his might and drop him on his head? Probably not. Did he just do a back flip off the top rope, then get picked up, raised over his opponent's head, and dropped out of the ring 10 feet to the floor? Oh yes.

^^ yes that is true.. I read the hardyz book they made and it said that, thats what they do to make the wrestlers bleed. Also they do that in the climax of the match so it looks like its really involved

Hubby says they are pretty much scripted...you don't get up so fast after being hit in the head with a metal chair or having a 300 pound person jump on you. I imagine there are some real bruises and blood, but it looks like it is largely entertainment.

It is scripted for the most part, but the wrestlers do get banged up during the match. Many of them have to pop pain pills before each match because they are sore from the last one. And yes, they do get badly hurt sometimes, and have to go to the hospital. When that happens, it is usually due to human error or equipment failure.

I think they do get hurt. They try to prevent it from happening with all the fake punches and such, but in reality, it does hurt. somebody might have punched harder then they should have, someone might have hit someone when they weren't expecting it and ect.

I know the blood is real. One of the ways the wrestler get the blood to bleed is to make a tiny paper cut on their forhead. while the opponent is punching the forhead, exposing the cut, making it bleed more.

Here are some video's from actual wrestlers giving thier opinion about the fake business.

I've heard it's all fake except for those rare accidents. I heard that the wrestlers with tape around their fingers have a small or piece of razor blade positioned there for those "cuts" they get during their part of the show.

Sometimes they really get hurt and they really bleed. Like Cena who is injured or Mankind during that Hell in a Cell with The Undertaker. Other times however, its pure entertainment and as such scripted.
