It is always difficult to choose the "the best" or the "most influential", etc. of anything, but Gordon Lightfoot ranks at or near the top for me. I grew up hearing G.L. on local radio and seeing him on the CBC. He is one of Canada's best songwriters and singers. He must be approaching 70 and from recent news reports he is doing much better than he was a few years ago. He had a terrible stomach ailment of some kind that almost killed him. His recovery was long and slow but I understand that he continues to write and occasionally performs. He has a huge store of songs and released an album about 1 - 2 years ago. I believe he lives in or around Orillia, Ontario, where he is from. Some of his earlier work, like "Early Morning Rain", "If You Could Read My Mind" and "Black Day in July", are songs that anyone who grew up in Canada during the 60s and 70s can sing along with but not even realize that you are doing so. I don't want to make this guy out to be a god or anything, but Canada is a better place because of Gordon Lightfoot.

Gordon Lightfoot, now there's a guy I haven't thought of in years. My mom and her deseased friend used to listen to him over and over in their haunted cabin in Ca. while smoking a doobie or two. I loved the song Every Highway and a couple others. His pic on Wik. looks like Danny Bonnaduce (how ever you spell the last name!).

At the end of an episode of Cold Case, I think some time earlier in 2007, they played a song of his--If You Could Read My Mind Love.
