Make sure you've started a retirement fund and contribute 10% of your pay to it.
Make sure you've got Term life insurance.
Make sure you have a will and a game plan to protect your loved ones from estate hassles.
Make sure you and your family have health insurance.
Make sure to protect your credit rating. Never make a late payment, especially on your mortgage, and strive to live debt-free.
Take good care of your house. Keep up with maintenance and periodic updates. It will be crucial to keeping your home's values up during the next few years of the housing slump.
Plan for your children's education as soon as they are born. College is going to cost as much as a house in 20 years and it will be even more essential than it is now to have a degree to get ahead.

In my opinion...
By the time you're 30, you should have
- Traveled abroad on your own.
- Had a meaningful relationship
- Gotten a degree, or at least a certificate.
- Learnt how to fluently speak a language (different from your native one).
There are more, but I don't know if you'd consider them ridiculous...!

Make sure you are intouch w/your true desires. Slow down to realize who you are and what you want out of life. Your 30's move very quickly ... It's all inside of your heart and soul. There are no rules. Realize this before you turn 30 and you'll be on the right path.
