No, that is not true. The more one learns about the structure of the universe, the less plausible the traditional idea of a big, white-haired creator dressed in a dirty bed sheet and sitting on a throne that resembles the base of the Stature of Liberty suspended somewhere in space between the moon and Jupiter seems.
Time to grow up.

North Star, "impossible"?
Incredulity makes a poor basis for understanding the world.
John Glenn expressed such sentiments. Some other astronauts have mentioned God. One does not have to be an atheist to get into the space program.

Oh yes - not only that; all the astronauts that are Jewish, Muslim, or Hindu spontaneously convert to fundamental Christianity immediately upon leaving the atmosphere..... Has to do with the atmospheric pressure.
Michel - I fully agree with you, but as it is, 90% of the questions here deal with either UFOs, conspiracy theories , or religion. Hard to find a question that I can sink my teeth into - or even respond without getting all cynical - sorry!

Gentlemen, this question has no place under the astronomy and space topic. I am sure all astronauts (and cosmonauts) have experienced moments of awe while being up there. Who would blame them, I feel the same flying only 3,000 ft above the ground in my small aircraft!
But what each of them attributed it to, must remain their own business. Discussions about creation vs. evolution belongs to another part of Yahoo Answers and it should remain like that.

Well, if they already believe in their Creator, their faith will become more stronger.
Of course they also have already signed disclaimer agreements requested by their employeers, on to not say anything other than the official statements.

Yes, it is impossible to see the grandeur of God's creation and the possibly think that it could have come about by chance. This fact is obvious when we breathe in and out, but seeing the Earth, wrapped in a thin veil of gas against the endless blackness of space eliminates any probability of random evolution.
