Tincture of iodine is a solution of elemental iodine in alcohol. It used to be used as an antiseptic, but has been replaced by other products, such as iodoform or betadine, which are less irritating.

Tincture of iodine is an antiseptic alcoholic solution. Pottassiumiodide is added to increase I2 solubility instead of Sodiumiodide, as it does not irritate endothelium and can be straightly used on cuts.
