No. It's not the same.
Being indifferent to religion means it really doesn't have any impact either way on your life. You don't fear it, you don't practice it and you don't believe it as much as most people don't believe there really is a genuine tooth fairy.
Being opposed to it usually means you hold a set of beliefs which are starkly contrasted to another. When someone is vehemently opposed to something it usually means they fear that thing or the consequences of it gaining power over you.
Does that help?

Apathy provides a cover for religious fundamentalism. At least a religious fundamentalist can look at the fundamentalists of other religions and say that they are wrong for doing certain things. Fundies know what it's like to really believe in a holy book, so they can understand why fundies of other religions do bad things.
A person who is indifferent or apathetic to religion rarely ever condemns the horrible actions committed in the name of religion. So in this aspect, the apathetic person is causing more harm in the world than the fundie or person who is honest enough to offer their true thoughts on the matters.

Being indifferent and being virulently opposed to the fact that the God Yahweh exists and is the only God is the same to Yahweh.

There are only two sides in this conflict between good and evil.
Not choosing good almost automatically makes one to choose evil since we are sinful by nature. Whether one is opposed or indifferent, it's the same.

Yes, the only way to prevent the damage from religion is to be actively opposed to any religion.

all religions are attempts to introduce man to God, with an intermediary process, either through a ritual, a custom, a prayer, an exercise, meditation, or the intercession of a priest, pastor, minister, holy man, shaman, guru, etc
You don't need religion
Jesus did not tell the Apostles to build churches, He told them to go out and spread the Good News by word of mouth.
The Good News is this:
God is within you, seek God there, God is within every person you meet, so you meet God every time you meet another person, try to think in terms of your own spiritual growth as you seek God, it may take years, but every step will be worth it, and when your body dies, your spirit will dwell in the House of the Lord for eternity

No, Heretics, those who believe in the wrong form of christianity, were always a worse enemy and were treated as such, than infidels, who merely believed in the wrong god entirely.
