I'm about to file for bankruptcy, but I would like to know if I would be banned to travel abroad after filing.

I didn't mean to travel, but I plan to leave for another country and look for a job there.

Well, I don't know how you could afford it but I don't think you'll be banned. How CAN you afford to travel if you're broke?

No, you have a constitutional right to travel, nothing will stop you from traveling, but unless you have a good reason to be doing so during the bankruptcy, I don't recommend doing it, it may raise some red flags if you're traveling while you're trying to discharge all your debt, so hold off until your bankruptcy is finished unless it's for work or an emergency. It would be a good idea to ask your bankruptcy attorney this.

If you're looking for a job in another country, it's definitely best to hold off until your bankruptcy is over, you have at least one court appearance to make (it's not really court, but it's typically held at bankruptcy court depending on your jurisdiction). And if any motions are filed that require your presence you need to be able to get there to make sure everything goes smoothly (it's unlikely this will happen in a chapter 7). But once it is over you can go wherever you want.

There are actually 2 separate questions here. Will the bankruptcy court allow you to leave the country will you are in bankruptcy? Will the country you plan to travel to allow you to enter while you are in bankruptcy. Both answers depend on the country you are in AND the country where you plan to go. I don't know either answer in any case.

I just noticed you asked about traveling AFTER bankruptcy. If you mean after the bankruptcy is discharged (you are no longer IN bankruptcy), you would have no problem from the US side. The other country can make any rules they want.

You can file for bankruptcy and travel. Airlines do not look at your credit before they issue you a ticket. The privacy act would not allow it. Besides the lines at the airports are long enough as it is.... I imagine half of the people at the airport would be banned from flying because filing for bankruptcy is allowed because its the law of the land and it entitles people to a fresh clean start. It's no ones business but yours and certainly not the airlines!..Lea USA

You are not allowed to travel outside of the US. I suggest you try to find yourself a job within the US to clear your debts. For most countries, bankruptcies are not allow to hold employment pass/permit.
