My tender heart for animals found me taking a puppy from a Lady yesterday at Walmart tha she was giving away. I felt so sorry for the puppies. They are 6 weeks ald and no shots, have not been wormed and flea infested. Of course first thing Monday the pup will go to the vet but I need to know what to do about the fleas before then. Every flea shampoo you find says for puppies over 12 weeks of age. Does anyone know what will happen if I use this shampoo for this young of a puppy?

Julie is right, using flea meds on a puppy is the wrong thing to do. take vinegar and dilute it to 25% strenght and comb it in with a flea comb. after sitting for 5 min or so wash it all off. the fleas will be jumping so do this in a bathtub. good luck with the pup.

Puppy Infested With Fleas

Crush some cloves of garlic and mix with oil. Leave to soak for say 5 max 10 mins, then wash the pup with some baby shampoo. Obviously luke warm water, that should get rid of all the fleas. When feeding again crush the cloves and add a little garlic in their food together with crushed sunflower seeds. The Sunflower seeds are a natural anti worming treatment and will not harm the puppies. The garlic is a natural flea deterrent and will keep any new fleas off the body.
Shots are not necessary, because dogs develop their own anti-bodies and in fact it is better to not give any shots until they are at least one year old. Do not use the flea shampoo as it could be toxic for puppies 6 weeks old.

Don't use a flea shampoo on the pup. It's not just the fact that it may be dangerous, it's that flea shampoos don't work - don't even bother using them on adult dogs. Never bother purchasing flea treatment from stores, because stores aren't licensed to sell the appropriate chemicals - you can't expect any flea treatment you buy from a store to work.

Get your flea treatment from a vet. As the puppy is under 8 weeks old you will have to get the spray version of Frontline, which is safe for use on pups and kittens from 2 days of age.

I'm sure people on here will tell you to comb the pup or use Dawn dish soap - please don't bother.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://bitly.im/iT8TO

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

Capstar!...will kill the fleas within 2-4 hours, then a good warm bath, let dry and apply Flea and Tick preventative. Frontline Plus. Also, have the pup checked for worms. Where there are fleas there are worms and that can cause you pup to be run down and tired and his little body won't absorb all of the nutrition he needs.

I'm not sure if the flea shampoo would help or hurt. I would just try baby shampoo and get him cleaned up for the vet on Monday. It's nice you rescued this puppy now have it spayed or neutered as soon as you can. Probably at about 6 months. Good Luck.

because of the harsh chemicals in the flea shampoo's I wouldn't recommend washing with any of those. just use dawn dish soap. wash the pup, then wait about a week and do it again. make sure you are getting it completely dry. they can get cold fast and wind up sick. if the dish soap dries the skin ask the vet if the pup can have omega 3 supplements. you could also try Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo, but it doesn't work as effectively on the fleas

you can get a pill from the vet called capstar, or something like that which will kill all of the fleas on him and then bomb your house. Be sure to do a good vacuum after and they should be taken care of. I'd recommend something like frontline for prevention.

You can purchase some deflea tablets from various sites online and shops that are safe to use on puppies. Make sure you get one that isnt for an adult dog. There is also a spray you can get for your house and a deflea bomb that you keep in a room of your house and it kills the fleas. As for worming you can also buy worming tablets for puppies to.
