Thanks for your answers. I am actually from Australia and here in 2007, 600 boys were named Riley but hardly any girls so its not heard of here...that's why I was asking but now I have no doubts.

I guess its like people naming their daughters Ashley now as it was originally a boys name - I have a brother Ashley and people always say to me about this name too that its a girls name.
I've come to the conclusion that I really love the name. The only aspect of the name I was worried about was the boy/girl thing but it seems that many people name their daughters Riley.

Name your baby whatever you like; this is not a name that will cause your child to be made fun of or harassed that I can see.
However, I would not name my baby girl Riley for the simple fact that that is becomming a common name in the USA for girls, at least in the larger states... it's almost along the lines of a McKenzie or Heather as far as popularity goes.
If you choose to go with a Riley, I haven't seen it spelled out as "Rylie" yet, and that one, for me, has more eye-appeal on paper.

As far as I know, it's a unisex name - I've heard of a lot of girls named Rylee - my little cousin included. Heck if people are going to say "that's a boys name", tell them well guess what - Ashley, Morgan, Shelby and Whitney among others were all originally BOY names! hehee. Rylee is definitely better than a lot of the crazy names people give their poor kids any more these days. I'd say go for it!

I know about 10 Rileys - all male dogs (mostly golden or chocolate labs). There are two female toddler's at my kids' aftercare center. It is obviously getting more popular. I personally wouldn't use it because it is too popular.
Giving the name an odd spelling will make it more clear that she is a girl, but will cause her to have to constantly spell her name for people. I have an incredibly common name with two potential spellings and I have to do this all the time. It gets old.

I personally think its a boys name (not a very masculine one)but its growing on me for a girls name as I do think its a bit more of a feminine name. Like Kylie with an 'r' I suppose.
I would be happy enough to spell it Rylee, Rylie, Ryleigh or Rileigh for a girl.
Go for it if you like it just remember that it is very common.

Leslie and Ashley and Morgan and Mason are BOY names, but everyone is naming their daughters these names.
Riley is a beautiful name. Go on and name your daughter that, it's wonderful!
P.S. Riley is not a "boy name", it's a last name. Just like Jordon and Peyton and Madison (those are last names also).
Merry Christmas
Cheers
