God is the most powerful being in the Universe. Misery and suffering are around because we are in a "fallen world". We should be in the Garden of Eden now where misery and suffering don't exist. That was God's plan at the start. But because of sin, Adam and Eve (and so all the generations that followed them--- that means us) were forced out of Eden where we have to toil and feel pain and misery and suffering. But God has a promise. He told us that He will be with us until the end of time. He did not say that He will take away our sufferings, but rather, He will help us with whatever we go through in life.

From a Muslim perspective there are a number of reasons:
God is punishing us for sins - and this punishment is a purification

Also to our limited intellects things may seem really bad for us which in reality are good- how many times in your life has something awful happened to you which it later turns out was actually good for you?
There is a saying in Islam "nothing that God does is ever bad-its just that the goodness in it has not yet been made clear to us"

The great Muslim mystic Rumi compared us to an ant walking across a carpet-the ant is bemused by the changes in the carpet -only the one above the carpet (God) knows there is a pattern and design to the carpet.

Isn't it us humans that bring on these things, through greed ,power and destruction.
If we had paid a bit more attention to the past and it's mistakes ,we would have world peace by now .
No one has proved that God existed or exists, and I only know what I was told by my parents as I was growing up,but it's worked for me so far ,I'm 50 now and still think of God as being somewhere around ........... in my mind at least.

Those are not the only options. There could be one or more forces at work that just don't care, or are not aware of us, or even push for failure.

But all of that is in the realm of conjecture, as is the hypothesis for a god in the first place. In any case, enlightenment is where you find it. But as for a literal, sapient, super-powerful deity... there is no more reason to believe in that than to believe in the Tooth Fairy.

Why do people assume that they know why a being as powerful as God is supposed to be would allow what does exists to exist? Are your values and motivation the same as an ant's? So why would God's be the same as yours? Why should He think that what you feel to be unjust to actually be unjust? Once you are elevated to a level which God is supposed to be on then maybe you can ask those questions if they still seem relevant to you at that time.

Revelation 21:6
He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

He exists, but He allows us the privelege of making mistakes and learning from them.Unfortunately, most of our mistakes hurt either ourselves or others,or both.
Sometimes bad things happen and they seem so useless to us...WHY????
But He gives us two things,in those cases. The ability to hurt, and heal, and keep on.
Secondly,He gives His love and comfort in times of distress,if we will only allow Him.
It sounds as if you have been through something really traumatic.Looking for reasons why, and who to blame, are natural.
All of my birth family have died,my husband is mentally ill and runs away when he gets manic and has become psychotic before and sold our Bed and Breakfast, our horses, everything, for $728.00 so he could rent a trailer for a girl he met in a bar and ran off with at Christmas, and I am starting to have to use a wheelchair more and more often.
But I could not make it without God.He is the only thing that kept me going when I wanted so many times to die.Now I feel like no matter what I went through,it was worth it,because my little 3 yr.old granddaughter has no one but me,and she loves me with all her pure, innocent, sweet heart. It doesn't matter to her if I am crippled. She,and I,both know God.He gave us each other to love...because He loves us.
I hope you find Him and open your heart to the love He has for you.Be Blessed.

The Kingdom of God is for anyone and everyone who is sincere and serious in rendering unconditional loving service to the Supreme Being with devotion, dedication, humbleness, humility and modesty and who has a very intense desire in his life, heart and mind to please the Supreme Lord and to fulfill His Divine Will with eagerness and enthusiasm. They are doing this because they are tasting and experiencing true and real happiness, pleasure, satisfaction and fulfillment in serving the Supreme Master.

Now, for those who are not interested in serving God because they are very envious of Him and they want to be God, they are sent and placed here in this material dimension of misery and suffering in their selfish perverted attempt to play God.

The misery and suffering was intentionally installed and placed here by God, because by this arrangement, somehow or someday, you will remember Him and you will realize that you need to return to Him and to be in His loving and caring arms inside His kingdom, your real and true home.

If this place is free of misery and suffering, do you need God?

Isn't the most powerful person in a company responsible for job cuts, because it is good for the company.
So why is it that god is only allowed to hire?
Because if he fires then he doesn't exist.
That is the same attitude that keeps bad stuff happening to people.
