Because they are in fear. They have always been taught fear and dooma and so they act the way they do. Religion is for people who are trying to keep from going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been there.

Unforunately, people are human no matter what God they worship. Religion has been used for centuries to justify horrible acts against other human beings. These acts, I believe, were carried out by people who were horrible anyway and just used religion as a convenient shield. I guess what I'm trying to say is that horrible people will always be horrible no matter what religion they are.....unfortunately, it just gives the religion a bad name instead of the person.
I truly believe that if Christians went about their lives honoring the example of Jesus and the Bible, the world would be a better place. But unfortunately, Christians are too caught up in arguing over details of everything rather than seeing the bigger picture.

Maybe you should take a look outside of the box and check out what good work is being done by Christians?
How many Christian charities/churches run homeless shelters and various advice centres (eg for debt, drug or alcohol problems)? How many put together food and clothing parcels for the needy? How many get stuck into helping out in suffering countries where others fear to tread? Who founded the Samaritans (listening helpline)?
Do I need to mention more?
The point I'm making is that for every careless Christian (and yes I agree there are lots out there), there are a helluva lot more who are doing something to help make this world a better place for someone.

Religion is often used as a presence, and excuse for committing atrocities. Religion should be like a gun. It shouldn't kill anyone by itself. However, people who interpret it incorrectly, or interpret it in a way that will service their own needs, or as I said before, use it as a pretense, are the people, not the religion, the so called Christians who are tearing people down and attacking them.

The Bible is a big grab bag, you can take what you want from it. Sure there are parts that tell you to love you enemies etc.., but there are also parts that tell you to burn unbelievers at the stake (John 15:6) and all sorts of other horrible disrespect for human life.
Read the Bible, but when you come across the filth that it contains don't whitewash it. Be honest with yourself and if you disagree with something, don't let fear cloud your mind and be honest and admit that it's filth.
Here is a good site that you can cross reference to, that helps you see the Bible without Jesus goggles on:

Christians aren't perfect - -but what you see as attacking people, may just be some good old fashioned tough love.
That is, Christians speak the truth - and to a guilty conscience convicted by the Holy Spirit of God, it sounds like an attack.

it is becuz the church is not practicing what they preach Jesus taught us to love each other and our enemies but they preach our young men to war. Jesus told us to turn the other cheek but people r taught 2 hit first and ask questions later. if only they would follow John 13:35,36, then we will build up and not tear down. it began with the pastors, priests and ministers to set the example and teach it.

because it is so easy to point the finger at someone else, and not live what they preach........and some seem to believe God has personally appointed them to prove everyone is living the wrong way..... when they really should be taking care of there own spirituality......... I am a Christian, so i do speak, with some knowledge... Merry Christmas to you

I think Jesus said, 'By their fruits shall ye know them.' which means a Christian IS one who lives to show love, tolerance and compassion to all. The ones you have met are not Christians in the mind of Jesus.

Christians are really not sure of what their religion is about, and they try to pull others into it so that they will not be lonesome. IMO they really know it is not of any good, put just hang around but want to have others with them who think as they do.
