Joseph was a very honorable man and had no guile or selfishness in him,he had to have been a very holy person for God to have chosen him to be the guardian and foster father of Christ.
Joseph was indeed filled with inner turmoil when Mary informed him of her condition yet he did not allow her to be scandalized, and defended her against the gossip of the people,God showed Joseph in a vision that this child was indeed the promised Messiah and not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife.
Joseph eventually realized also that he too was chosen for a special role in the plan of redemption as the guardian of the Christ child.

Let's do the maths: one year of engagement minus nine months of pregancy equals?
Some scholars say that the original word meant 'maid' or 'young woman' but was translated as 'virgin'. Jesus could have been imbued with God's message whatever way he was born.
The story also proves that saying "Give us a room, my wife is pregnant," is no substitute for Amex.
(I use a centurion card at this time of year.)

By accepting her pregnancy and helping her conceive the Messiah and prepare beddings for him. He also became a good stepfather to his Stepson.
