Drinking would not make you a bad Mormon, it would make you a good person, making a poor decision. If you want to be a good Mormon, you should do everything in your power to follow all of the comandments, not just pick and chose. But no, it does not make you bad.

No

You can still be a good person and drink alcohol but not a good mormon.

Mormons do not drink alcohol. It is something that will keep you out of the temple and against the word of wisdom.

There are good Mormons who drink. They will not have the blessings that are promised for abstaining.

D&C 89:18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones;
19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint.
21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.

Yes and no, as others before me have said better than I could.

In Corintians 6:19-20, Paul counsels us that our bodies are temples to the Holy Spirit and not to defile them because they are God's, not ours.

In the Word of Wisdom, God tells us to abstain from alcohol, and it was also taught that drinking it defiles our bodies as temples to the Holy Spirit.

I know that studies sponsored by the alcoholic beverage industry show that alcohol is good for you, as the cocoa industry releases studies every so often that dark chocolate is good for your health. Repeat for pork, juice, crab.. you name it, someone bankrolls a study that supports it.

The U.S. National Institute of Health, bankrolled by no company, did a study that shows LDS who follow the Word of Wisdom live 8-11 years longer than the national average.

For me, it comes down to how willing I am to defile God's creation and take weeks, months, or years of my life away from myself and my family in order to get my drink on like I used to when I was an atheist. Abstaining is hard at first (I used to brew my own beer!), but it pays major-league dividends in this life and the next.

You can be a Mormon and drink alcohol. You would be able to participate in worship services and other activities with this exception. Since avoiding strong drinks is an expectation, you would not be able to receive a "temple recommend" to be able to participate in temple worship in a temple.

The Doctrine and Covenants says you're not supposed to.

But it also says you're not supposed to eat meat, except in times of famine, or cold.

Also, hot drinks are bad.
