The only argument that he 360 people have is there are more games for the 360.. Well the PS3 has currently over 200 games with 300 more out by spring.
Of the 375 360 games 25% are arcade downloads. The 360 as at least a 33% full hardware failure rate requiring the 360 owner to send teh 360 to microsoft so they can take a month to fix it only so that it happens again 2 months later.

Now for the Technical and gaming specs

# Play Ps1 games and ps2 titles

Xbox 360 Premium $349, 360 Elite $459 and Aracade$299 consoles
# 360 was first released in 2005.
# Premium comes with 20 gig hard drive, and headset, Elite comes with a 120 gig harddrive and headset. Arcade only comes with a 256mb card and five preinstalled arcade games.

Games still produced on 8 gig dvds (not much room for a game when hd graphics files are taking up the space.)
Xbox 360 outdated dx9 graphics, and can't go full 3d 4d motion realism. (PS3 Can with rsx GPU)
# ALL new XBox 360 system offer HDMI 1.2 output (PS3 has hdmi 1.3 for deep color support)
# Xbox live Gold has monthly fees to play online(PS3 Free online)
# Text chat, video chat, and voice chat available

# Plays dvd movies and for hddvd movies the purchase of a Microsoft HDDVD player is reguired for $189.
# 1080i update available
# No web Browser for internet browsing
# For wireless connections the xbox 360 requires the purchase of a microsoft Wireless adaptor for $100 (PS3 can out of the box no additional purchase necessary)
If you want rechargable controllers you have to buy an addon for $20. (PS3 comes with rechargable controllers)
# Xbox 360 currently has more games available But has many reported hardware issues. Microsoft has extended the Warranty on the 360 console for one such issue that many call the Red Ring of Death or RROD. If you have this issue or have suffered disk scratching contact Microsoft Support at 1-800-4my-xbox for Console exchange and repair

PS3 has better technology and Ubisoft is releasing there next game to exclusive to ps3 (HAZE). Game producers need the space that blueray offers for great graphics and games that take longer than an afternoon (halo 3 takes 3 hours to beat). microsoft refuses to have the hddvd player come standard with the 360 and won't allow game producers to use the hddvd 25gig format.

There is no difficulty programming the ps3 it's just multiplatform game producers that want a rep for quality release the 8 gig version of 360 games first because they can't do much with 8 gigs and outdated dx 9 graphics...They delay the ps3 versions so they have time to take advantage of the blueray 50 gig discs to add more content and better game physics which the 360 can't handle with it's outdated hardware.

Own all three systems and have had 3 360 red ring of deaths on the pro , and 1 red ring of death on the Elite. Our ps3 has been running 24 hrs a day (standford University Folding@home project) since march with no issues.

Xbox 360 vs. Ps3

Graphics:
The Xenos GPU on the Xbox 360 is superior the RSX on the PS3. Xenos simply has more power, higher filtrate, higher pixel processing power, higher vertex processing power, and better memory architecture. If you look at multiplatform games and contrast the graphics on the two consoles, Xbox 360 almost always leads. Whether they use a higher resolution or higher quality antialiasing, games often look better and/or play smoother on the 360. Cell has the potential to help with graphics on the Playstation 3. As developers become more familiar with the platform, they are going to come up with new tricks to help games run smoother, and allow them to look better. However we aren’t seeing huge leaps towards this, except on a couple exclusive titles.

Performance:
The Playstation 3’s Cell engine is more capable than Xbox 360 triple-core Xenon CPU. However, the Xbox 360 is much easier to develop. In other words, a lot of the Cell’s power is going to waste.

Game Selection:
This category has two things to consider; exclusive titles for each console, and which console is better to play multiplatform games on. Given the choice between playing a multiplatform game on either console, the XBOX 360 is almost always better. At the very least, games will look the same on both consoles. At the worst, games on the PS3 will run at half the framerate of the 360, and at lower resolutions with less filtering and antialiasing. Also, multiplatform games are often delayed by weeks or even months on the PS3, a testament to the difficulty of working with the Ps3. Also in the past year, we haven’t seen a single HUGE title drop for the PS3. The closest thing is a very good platformer/shooter with excellent graphics. Instead, exclusive games get delayed (MGS4), or end up failing miserably (Lair), or do not live up to expectations (Heavenly Sword).

Online Support:
It’s going to be tough for anyone to beat Xbox Live. The interface is excellent, the interaction between players is superb, and extra features like achievements add the small touches that make playing games on the Xbox 360 just better for certain people. Playstation Network has the sole advantage of free. However, to play any game at all on Xbox Live, you must subscribe at $50 per year at its cheapest. One disadvantage of the Playstation 3 is the fact that you cannot send messages to your friend from within a game, in order to reach the main menu of the PS3, you need to quit out of the game you are playing, and go to your friends list that way. There is nothing in the way of voice and no cross-game invite system. With Xbox Live, hit one button and you can reach your friends right away. You can even add your MSN/Live Messenger list to the 360, and talk to your non-gaming friends any time you want.

Conclusion:
I think XBOX 360 is clearly the better console to buy. Not by a long shot. Each console has their own advantages and disadvantages.

This is my cut and paste answer. The reason for that is because a tech info is a tech info, you can't beat it (sources below). Also this question is so often!!!

PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.

Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

1). A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%. Despite some people say, that new 360 has no breakdown issues - just visit Xbox section of Yahoo answers and see for yourself an amount of complaints.
2). PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
3). PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
4). Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
5). PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in 4 slots card reader (except 20GB and 40GB versions), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
6). PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
7). PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
8). From the first technical sight - graphics are stronger in 360 (it has a stronger graphics chip - Xenos), BUT PS3 can use it's Cell CPU for graphics too, which gives you better graphics in total. PS3 uses a weaker RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. RSX runs on 550 Mhz. It's difficult to compare their graphics, because 360 has a video chip with totally different structure and operating memory is divided differently in both consoles. Xbox isn't that versatile in dividing tasks between CPU and GPU as PS3. That's why PS3 exclusives look better than 360's exclusives.
9). PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.
10). Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 15 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it. That's why in some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
11). Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
12). In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
13). PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
14). There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
15). The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console. Biggest games weigh only 25 GB (Xbox 360 will need more than 3 discs even for those).
16). On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
17). PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
18).Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. There is a cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
19).Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.
20). PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 is getting rumble controller (Dualshock 3) in 1st quarter 2008, Japan already has it. On www.ebay.com I saw those controllers on sale 50$ and up (unofficial import)
21).On PS3 you can help sick people by running Folding Home project. Wii and Xbox 360 didn't even think about it.
22).New 40GB is 399$ or 399 euro (depends on the region) - it has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games, has 2 USBs instead of 4, no built-in card reader, but it's the same PS3, strong, reliable, less noisy, different cooling system. The price is friendly.
23). But, to be just, I'm not a PS3 fanboy, so (despite I own one) hear this - PS3 games (exclusives) are very hard to develop due to complicated Cell's architecture. We have to wait till developers will figure out how to develop games properly. Sometimes multiplatform games run not so good on PS3 due to the same developing issues - it's hard for developers to get a grip on such advanced technologies.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.
