I'm looking at hiking in British Columbia at the end of September / early October. I would like to spend a couple of nights in the back country in either the rockies or vancouver island.

It is towards the end of the season. Are the trails / huts likely to still be open or shut for winter?
Any recomendations? Top day trails? Good 3 day backcountry trips?

I've done a fair bit of wild camping in Scotland, so have some expertise.

Stanley Park should be your first stop. Grouse mountain and Victoria is also an amazingly beautiful place.

If you like hiking Vancouver Island is a great place to go. Mt. Washington just outside of Courtenay is beautiful. They do have hiking during the summer, with lots of trails around Strathcona Park. West Coast Trail on the Southern Tip is also another incredible way to go. That can be a several day hike.

BC tourism has a good website. You may find information there. Also check Alberta for the rockies. Jasper to Banff. Great scenery but you may find snow at the higher elevations by October.
