why ask the question if you already answered it yourself......the same reason some people check their toilet paper before dropping it in the pot. You have to check your body and make sure everything is working properly. What if you never looked at your toilet paper and then by some freak accident you die one day and they find out that youve been pooping purple pelicans for the past 2 months. I wouldnt want that to happen personally.

Inherently and subconciously, you are looking at how "sick" you may be. It is actually a very good habit to have, just like looking in the toilet.
1. Clear mucus means all is well
2. Light Yellow to Yellow means a very mild infection that may clear up
3. Bright Green - uh oh - you're stewing up something good in that infection
4. Dark green to dark browns and blacks - get to the doctor now!
5. Excessive blood for no reason other than dry nasal passges or trauma to the nose.
Now as to the toilet since someone brought it up:
1. poop is somewhat firm and regular color (healthy)
2. poop is chronic liquid and no form for a week or more (possible serious problems)
3. Excessive blood in the stool for more than 2-3 days (get help!)
4. urine is a light to almost clear color (healthy)
5. urine is dark yellow (too much acids and fruits, drink more water)
6. blood in the urine and it is not menstrual related (go see your doctor)
Hope that helps! Good luck on all your future nose blowing

This is one of those "things" that's been handed down through the years. The mother makes you blow your nose. She looks at the tissue to check for green mucus etc. and either goes "Aah, or Ugh" depending on the color. If it's "Aah, then you only have a cold and get to have chicken noodle soup etc. If it's "Ugh" it's a call to the doctor and possibly a visit to same. Your have thus learned the process.

I think it is out of curiosity and that so people can make
sure that every thing is okay.. like no blood, or bugs.
Also when it is cold season people probably tend to look more because darker thicker greener mucus is usually a sign of a sinus infection. Clear mucus is generally a better sign for health issues.
hope this helps!

It's quite normal and a good habit to maintain to check the consistency, and color of the mucus after blowing one's nose. This way, you can detect if you have any problems..This is impt .
When you become ill and have to go and see the doctor; you can tell him this observation as part of your symptoms. This is esp impt to the doctor when he obtains your medical history. This will help the doctor in the formulation of his diagnosis.and determination of any therapeutic intervention. or treatment.

To make sure they've gotten it all! You've gotta keep blowing until the kleenex comes out dry! That's the same reason people look after they wipe...if there's poo on the paper, best keep on a'wipin.

The same reason you look in the toilet after you've gone #2, just to see what nasty sh*t you can produce.

UGH my sister does that all the time.
I do know that when you're sick, it's good to know if the phlgem is yellow or green--that means you're sick, whereas clear indicates sinus health.
