Just how many types are there? Are they any different from each other?

I suggest you read a lot to find where you belong. If Christianity is the route you are wanting to go, then I think you should want to go with the first true church. There is some dispute to what the first Church is though. The Catholic Church says it is them, but you ask any Orthodox and we will say we are the first Church. What I think you should do is really take up history and find out for yourself like I did.

If you are choosing to follow christianity, then I would suggest a careful examination of the Bible. Look at the truths taught there, then find a church that preaches doctrine consistent with those truths. The book of Ephesians gives a lot of detail of how Jesus chose to establish his church. that is one of the places I would look to first.

EDIT: if you need some ideas on what to look for in the Bible, I can give you a list of scripture references that may be helpful. If you want, you can reply to me, and I would be happy to share ideas with you.

EDIT 2: note to Cindy (3 answers below mine), if all you have to do is say "Jesus I believe in you" then what do you make of Matthew 7:21-23?

EDIT 3: Note to CVO (answer below mine) Really?!?! The king James version? The original translation? Where do you get your historical facts? There were many Bibles translated before KJV. Ever heard of Johannes Gutenberg, Martin Luther?

I'd recommend one that doesn't spend a lot of time condemning everyone who isn't a member, or advocating the end of the world as a good thing. I might also suggest avoiding the ones that talk about killing or forcibly converting everyone else.

Perhaps one that actually practices what it preaches about love and tolerance. That should narrow the field by more than half.

There are more than 10,000 different sects and subsects in Christianity. Good luck.

Why christianity? Why not Buddhism or something else?
I would try them all until one fits for you.
Actually as someone else pointed out, the teachings of Jesus are worthwhile, but some of the types of Christianity around are man's versions.
The teachings of Jesus are very similar to the teachings of Buddha and the great prophets well before Jesus.
Study them all.

The Holy Bible kind. New Living translation, which is written in plain modern English. The King James version is not the first translation, it is written in 16 century English and modern English has changed lots since then.

The True Founder of Christianity

Did Jesus or his Apostles follow a religion called Christianity? Who were the first 'Christians' ? Who founded Christianity and do the teachings of Christianity conform to the teachings of Jesus?

The teachings of Paul, the true founder of Christianity, cannot be found anywhere in the teachings of Jesus or in those of prophets before him.

Don't go with religion, just follow Jesus. His story is spelled out in the Bible so you must read it for yourself. There is a lot of false teaching around so beware.

If you have received Jesus in your heart by Saying
Jesus I am a sinner
I believe You died on the cross for me
Please forgive my sins
Come into my heart Jesus
Save Me Jesus
The Bible says everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved
