Yeah. This could happen with many appliances when bought from abroad. This situation of yours can be easily solved. Talk to a local electrician. He will provide you with an adapter (a step-down transformer) which will bring the voltage down to your required level. You can connect the PS3 through this adapter.
You can also alternatively call up Sony and explain your situation. They might provide you with a solution.

Dumb purchase. Besides the voltage, you have the different frequency of power (50 cycle vs 60) and different TV standards (PAL vs SECAM)
To take care of the voltage you need a 2:1 power transformer which should be sold at hardware stores and places catering to foreign business men. It is a chunk of metal with wires inside and plugs and adaptors to deliver 120 out one side when 240 is applied to the other. Should cost about $25 for a unit large enough for the PS3

You'll need a good power converter,110->240V. 60hz->50hz 500 watt is a good one. I live in Eastern Europe and I have US PS3. Converter costed me around 50$ (Big, bulky and quite heavy, don't use cheap tiny ones).
