Do you have any risk factors for diabetes present? (obesity, poor glycemic control, elevated levels of insulin etc.) Also, sometimes people with a strep infection often times report a grape like odor, so you might want to get swabbed for that. Our sense of taste and smell are very closely related, so this may not be outside the realm of possibility. I did a quick search of the medication you mentioned taking and didnt come up with any side effects such as taste disturbance listed. I would see an ENT to have things checked out, if things are still not resolved or any new findings, sit down with your health care provider and discuss some other options and treatment strategies. Best or luck!

Metronidazole tablets should be taken with plenty of water with or after food. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed.
You should not drink alcohol while taking this antibiotic, and for at least 48 hours after finishing the course, as this can cause unpleasant symptoms such as hot flushes, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache and palpitations.
This medicine may cause various side effects that could impair your mental or physical ability to safely drive or operate machinary. You should be aware of how you react to this medicine before driving or operating machinary.
Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, it is important that you finish the prescribed course of this antibiotic medicine, even if you feel better or it seems the infection has cleared up. Stopping the course early increases the chance that the infection will come back and that the bacteria will grow resistant to the antibiotic.
If your treatment course exceeds 10 days it is recommended that you are monitored by your doctor, who may carry out tests to check for side effects and that the medicine is working properly Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.

I know when my husband had scented breath, we found out it was a liver problem. But on the brighter side could just be the tablet.
