Swearing is an unintelligent person's way of feeling in the gaps in a conversation.

I said that in light humor though. ;o)

For a woman, I think it is extremely unladylike. For a man, I think it is very unattractive. It is hard to respect someone who resorts to that sort of language instead of expressing their frustrations through through other non-offending expression of words.

depends on the circumstances it is used.

With some it shows a poor education and lack of vocabulary,

Others do it to look cool and usually come across as fools in the process.

Many do it because society via the various media ( movies , TV and music) have allowed profanity to become sanatized and acceptable in general language.

There was a time when you couldnt say "Hell" on the TV now they can say the "F" word.

Does it make for better TV ? does it add emphasis to the storyline? Is it that bad that people are becoming immune to it?

To me I dont really feel the need to use profanity, doesnt mean I wont or that i havent , I just dont feel like using it..

It does not form part of my general conversational vocabulary.Tthere are plenty of other words that suffice without having to use profanity. .

I guess that as long as it is not use directly at someone, in a threatening manner or at or around women then I dont have a major problem.

To each his own I guess.

I used to cuss like a trucker, then I had a baby. Now, as a mature mother, I think there is a time and a place for it. I still cuss, but only when my emotions run high and there is no child in the room. The only time cussing seems appropriate is when you are either EXTREMELY frustrated or upset, or you are telling a joke. This may sound weird, but so am I!

I rarely use profanity, if I do it's because I'm very mad and want to express that and feel cursing's the only way to. But it's kind of, not so much offensive, but annoying when people use profanity just because they think it makes them look cool or they use it in every single sentence.

There's a time, place, and age for everything. This doesn't mean I think it's okay to teach children profanity (inevitably they will hear plenty of it in school, movies, and music).

As adults we're expectd to use good judgement and have control of our tongues, but it doesn't always work out that way.

mature adults use self control. someone that swears indiscriminately is immature and lacks self control. restraining your speech shows respect for other people. I realize people lose their cool once in a while, but I don't care to be around someone with a profane vernacular because that demonstrates their immaturity.

I use profanity when I burn the toast. So I guess that's why my son asked why Jesus was named after a swear word.

well honestly some of us really need a way to cool off. and its bad for your health to hold anger in.

now some people use boxing, some run it off, and some do other stuff. but for some of us, cussing is the best way to get it off.

if I didnt cuss everyday for every time my sibling pissed me off, I'd be in the hospital by now.

although some people just cuss just for the hell of it. but some of it are really pissed or made a big mistake when we said a bad word

I'm alright with profanity, but when used excessively it can be extremely crude and make the speaker seem less intelligent or thoughtful.

Profanity is just another way to express your thoughts.

It has been around as long as humans have had the ability to speak.

It doesn't really bother me one way or the other.

And if done in front of my daughter, I use it as an opportunity to teach her how to find better words.
