I got my property tax bill for my old vehicle (which was sold to an auto shop when it broke down a while back). On the bill and through looking at my info. online, I notice the tax is for that car and not my new one. What do I need to do? Do I still pay for my old car's tax? And if so, what about my new one? Thanks!

That depends upon the state where you live. Most states determine liability for personal property taxes based upon a certain date. If you owned the car on that date, you'll pay the personal property taxes on it even if you dispose of it after that date or even move out of state. For example, in MO where I now live, you pay the tax on every vehicle you own as of January 1st of the year, even though the bills don't come out until November or December and aren't due until December 31st.

I thought property tax was what you pay for your home and land. Sales tax is all I pay on my car when I first purchase and register it. I live in MI
