My neighbour has one and heard that some of the new games won't work, and she is upset because she wanted to get Singstar. Is this true?

I don't know for other games, but GTA San Andreas had some issues on SOME of old PS2's (not all of them). That's because GTA SA was the first PS2's game on dual-layer DVD (DVD-9).

absolutely. I had to get rid of 13 games that were given to me because they had purple backs which never work, and even a brand new Star Trek and Midnight Club 3 Dub edition didn't work.
I'm getting a slim line ASAP
