Go to a bank, preferably one you already have an account at, and ask for a secured credit card. Basicly, you usualy put $500 in an account, and it is held, and you are given a card with a limit of $500. You use the card like normal, you just have a $500 limit, and after some time, you may be able to go higher or turn it into an unsecured card.
Bank of America does this.

You can get a secure credit card. In a nut shell, you put up the money, say $500.00 and use your credit card, and pay off whatever you charge each month. This will establish your credit, without any risk to the bank,as you are putting up the money. After a trial period of you paying off your debts on time each month, you can apply, and probably get credit,at other establishments.Hopefully you have an account at a bank. That would be the best place to start. Also, rent a center type agreements are good for establishing credit, assuming you pay every payment on time, until the debt is payed off.

The secured credit card is a better deal than the prepaid one, which slowly evaporates to monthly fees. Also, the prepaid credit card is not going to help your credit history.
Whatever you do, ALWAYS pay off your credit card when the bill comes in. If you carry a balance from month to month, that's a bad start, asking for trouble. After about a year of being a good payer, companies will start coming to you to offer credit.
Good luck!

Just tell Bank of America you're an illegal immigrant and they'll give it to you no problem. And you won't even have to pay it back!
