Ok, for the past three years i've been getting this weird feeling in my chest when i breath in. It feels like my chest is really tight or like i can't get enough air. I know that both my mom and my dad often have a hard time breathing and they've both described the same feeling. I've noticed that it gets a lot worse after i've been doing something active. Early i was at a friend's Christmas party and we all went outside to go sledding down this huge hill behind his house. Well everyone else could run up the hill about 5 times before having to take a break, but I could only walk up the hill once then i'd have to sit and rest for like 5 minutes before i could breath again. It also happens when I'm just sitting down watchin TV or relaxing. I've told my aunt (who i live with) but she says I'm just "faking" it because i want attention. Does anyone know what it could be or why I'd be feeling this way??

You will be best served by going to a doctor. Prolonged shortness of breath can cause damage to your heart when left untreated. Just go , get tested and they will have you breathing better soon.

It could be asthma. People with asthma feel pressure in the chest which is often described as "an elephant sitting on your chest" Asthma can also be exercise enduced. The only way to find out for sure is to see a doctor and they can prescribe you medicine and/or an inhaler. Are you overweight? Out of shape? these can also explain the symptoms.

I was a military medic, you need to see a doctor and have a simple blow-in-a-tube breathing test done! (Pulmonary Function Test). Or do whatever the doctor asks. Brace yourself for the possibility it could be anxiety and/or something emotional too. Whatever it is, don't sit and worry about it--just take care of it!

what are you eating?
how much sugar are you eating? wheat? processed food?

what exercise are you getting daily?
what relaxation techniques are you practicing TWICE DAILY for 20 minutes each time?

how much television do you watch?

this sounds like "exercise induced asthma" which can come from any exertion. but is also related to anxiety.

so, i vote for the check up with a NATUROPATHIC dr, breath testing/lung capacity testing, and more - check allergies to foods like wheat, sugar, caffeine, milk, nuts, etc etc.

Sounds like you are out of shape. Are you overweight? It could be a weight issue. Go to your doctor, get a physical and then start a low impact exercise routine. Sounds like a good New Year's resolution.

It might be advisable to pay a visit to a cardiologist, or at least see your regular doctor (if you have one) and then maybe get a referral to one.
