I have a new LG LCD tv capable of 1080p. I have a HD DVR box from my cable company, and all of the HD programming was running at 1080i on the TV via component cables, but I bought an HDMI cable in place of the components, and now it will only do 720p via HDMI when it did 1080i via component. What am I doing wrong? I know my HDMI cable will do up to 1080p. I don't expect to get 1080p from the HDMI since the signal is not 1080p, but why would it go down to 720p when I was getting 1080i with an inferior technology?

Your cable box settings for HDMI are probably set to 720P. Go into the settings, and set it to output at whatever resolution the signal is. By the way, if your set is a 720P set (the fact it can display 1080P doesn't mean it is 1080P), then there's nothing inherently wrong with leaving things as they are. You can try both ways and see whether the TV or the cable box does a better job converting to the 720P of your set. If it is a 1080P set, then you do want to change the settings.

Most Network channels only output 720.

The HDMI input is probably telling you what you are really seeing.

720 progressive is better than 1080 interlaced, so leave the settings how they are.
