First, I gave my son Robitussin (Guafenesin Syrup), and when the fever persisted an hour later, I gave him Children's Motrin. 3 hours after, in bed, he was shaking, and it was very hard to wake him up, which is unusual. Is this because of the 2 medicines I gave to him, or is it just because he has a cold? Should I be worried? Thank You

If you gave any medication, you should have waited longer than an hour before you gave him another dose of anything. You may have over dosed him i would take him to the hospital. NOW.

I would call Poison Control Center and see what some of the side affects are for 2 different meds so close together might be.

There shouldn't be any problem combining those two meds. How old is he? Are you sure you gave him the right dosage? Does he have a fever? That could be why he is shaking if the Motrin is wearing off. I would call the doctor and ask to talk with a nurse or you can call a pharmacist to see if you gave the correct dosage.

If your baby is less than 6 months old do not give her ibuprofen (Children's Motrin) unless your physician has told you to. I have the Professional Dosage Chart given to me by the doctor in ER when we had our daughter in for hallucinating, listlessness, and 104.7 fever. In children who are 6-11 months and weigh 13-17 pounds the correct dosage is 1/4 teaspoon for fever under 102.5 F and 1/2 teaspoon for fever over 102.5 F. For babies 12-23 months who weigh 18-23 pounds the dosage is 1/2 teaspoon for fever under 102.5 and 1 teaspoon for fever over 102.5. Dosage can be given every 6-8 hours. Infant Tylenol drops are not the same concentration as Children's Motrin.
