I need a copy of the attachments which were used to file for an income tax return. What does a transcript show or explain? I need this asap. What's the fastest way to receive this? Can you go to the IRS office and get a copy that same day?

This really depends on what you need. There are a few different types of transcripts available. An accont transcript would show filing, assesment and letter dates, activities that could extend statutes and payments made to the IRS. You need to fill out a form 4506-T and mail it to the IRS to receive the information. I do not know of anyway for a a taxpayer to get the information faster than within 4-6 weeks.
As an Enrolled Agent I can call the line solely for tax practitioners and get transcripts immediately going back a number of years if I have power of attorney on file for a client, but that is for practitioners only and you would need to hire someone to do it that way. What information do you need, and what do you need it for?
