Saw a show on tv today, guys climbing a mountain. They stopped for the night and made "Fried Bread" NOT deep fried, just a little bit of oil in a pan and dough. Anyone know where I can find how to make this? Looked so good, just want to try.

sean it's one of the simplest and one of the best. I make it often I like it with brown beans.
3 c. self rising flour
3 table spoons Fat (your choice) of
oil, shortening or butter
enough milk to make a soft dough
Heat fat in heavy fry pan. I use about 3 or 4
table spoons of oil for frying ( I use an iron skillet) When fat is hot lower heat to medium low and using a large spoon place a spoon full of dough in skillet then spread dough to 1/2 inch thick. cook until bread is brown to your liking turn with pan cake turner brown other side. in a 10 inch skillet I cook 4 or 5 pieces of bread at a time. You will need to add oil to skillet from time to time if not the bread will get to brown. After you make the bread a time or two you will get the hang of it. If you like you can make flap jacks with the same dough just make it thin enough to pour in the skillet. like you would hot cakes smear with a little butter pour on a little syrup and you have a good breakfast. On the lake on the river or in the deer woods. I like to have a jar of peanut butter in my pack also. good luck with your camp cooking. jim b
I enjoy the fried bread even at home

I like fried cornbread.

The way I make is is to put a cup or two of plain white corn meal (not the self-rising type) in a bowl, add some salt, the add water stirring until you have a thick batter. Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil, press flat with a spoon or spatula. Turn and cook until both sides are golden brown.

There are a lot of fried breads from various countries. In the Caribbean there is Roti. In India there is Paratha or Puri (just for some common examples). Look up a recipe for any of the breads I named.
