File a complaint with the department, they DO go through and supervisors DO hear about it and things are usually done, even in small instances. I don't know how much good it will do, but at least people will be hearing about it, so you should definitely try.

Your question is to vague for a correct answer, need more details concerning the incident, however simply the fact that you were pulled over means that the officer "detained" you. The question will be was the length of your detainment justified based on what you were stopped for, that is, what was your violation, either a traffic violation or a violation of the criminal law or local ordinance. Also, being verbaly abused is not a crime per se, but if it disturbes the peace, then it is a crime. Most likely the traffic stop was recorded via a dash cam and a mic on the officer. Sounds most of all like an internal disciplinary issue for poor conduct by the officer.

You can report it to the Ethical Standards Division. They have professional dry cleaners to white wash it. I.e. do not expect any result. In Melbourne an off duty police officer was involved in an unprovoked attack on a Jewish father and his two sons. First the police gave interviews to the press about the "shocking incident" then Ethical Standards covered up the case.

Write a letter to the department. It's better to get things in writing compared to phone conversations. Forward a copy to the city council, the mayor, the fire chief, the newspaper, and anyone else that will listen. Request a formal reprimand of the officer involved. That's what I would do. Keep bothering them until you get action. In these situations, they count on you simply giving up. If you ***** loud enough, long enough, they have no choice but to act. Good luck.

We need more information on this verbal abuse. What you consider verbal abuse might not actually be such.
You can report anything. I would suggest trying to contact the officer and ask them to apologize to you before you report anything. A bad report on a cop can seriously damage their career. You have to consider whether it's really worth it.

Can't imagine why the officer would "verbally abuse" you unless you were being a smart-a** in the first place.

life is too short--- just forget it ----there are rude people in this world and I sometimes wonder how they can sleep at nights but my brother (an expert on all things and has degrees to prove it) advises me that they probably sleep better than I do. And you may have been doing something wrong so try to improve so that it does not happen again.

From your question, it doesn't seem like the officer committed a crime but you can definitely report him. Call the agency he works for and ask to speak with his supervisor and tell them what happened.

If the officer had a recording device in his car you could probably use it to help you in proving abuse. You could speak to a lawyer, but it may not be worth it financially.
