I just got out of a Philosophy class. I now understand why atheists are atheists. As a theist, I do not agree, but I understand why they are what they are. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want to!

Atheist are not all ignorant, neither are Christians or people of other religions.
Its all a matter of research and faith.
Many are influenced by culture, parents, teachers, etc.
Many ex-Muslims' lives are threatened by their own family when they leave their old beliefs. Many who grew up in Christian families are shunned when they don't accept tradition.
The best way to determine truth is to seek for your self, even if it means going against the grain.

I think I do. My father was an atheist who got saved on his death bed at the age of 95. He was bisexual, but raised as a Christian in his early life. I didn't get saved till I was 48. The thing is, there's a lot of hypocrisy in the church, like we are some kind of special people who don't sin, and the holier than thou attitude turns the world off - it even turns me off sometimes. It's sad. My father was always generous, not at all predjudiced against anyone, and I'm glad I grew up that way. There are a lot of so called Christians who are not going to make it into heaven. If you really research the teachings of Christ it's all about love and forgiveness and tolerance, so I know what you mean. The Jesus the self righteous, antagonistic Christians portray is not the one true Christians follow. God Bless you!

Yes, I know exactly why Atheists are Atheists.
Incidentally, since most of you all can't even decide on the definition of the word Atheist I think it's a little flawed to assume you all have the same reason for believing what you believe, right?

I completely understand atheists. Most of them firmly believe that science will eventually explain most everything. When they hear, "How can you look around at all the trees and still say God isn't real?" they respond by explaining seeds, xylems, phloems, and transpiration. They don't believe in any gods, because there truly isn't any real proof for them. This is understandable and on the surface it's logical and rational. I understand them because I used to be one, before I woke up one day with an amazing feeling that I couldn't shake. Now I feel God, and am truly sorry for every Christian I've chastised and mocked. I'm sorry for every ignorant comment I made toward them. I've learned that all people have the right to not believe (or believe) whatever they please.

As a FORMER atheist I understand 100%
But I also understand that no REAL atheist like i used to be ever spends time in any religious sections full of Gospel.
Only fake atheists here that really do believe but are not yet willing to admit it or be seen in church.

Isn't it obvious...? A belief is merely a belief. Atheism doesn't call for belief. It calls for accepting reality precisely as it presents itself.

Nope. I look at it this way. Since most of them just make fun of those who believe, why should I bother to take the time to ask or try to understand why they don't believe?
