Ares and Artemis, Athene is right up there

Kinda a warrior spirit here, all three appeal to that in me.

Of course, having met Alex Tydings (the actress that played Aphrodite) in Xena.... she's a sweetheart in real life, gotta say.

Added: Dave W - the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses are worshiped TODAY by reconstructionist religious believers. They are real, they are just as viable as they were in the Golden Age.

My favorite is the myth of Endymion - the shepherd boy that Selene (or Diana) the moon goddess falls in love with. And yet even after being granted by Zeus that he, a mere mortal, should be allowed to marry the goddess of the moon, he is not content. He cheats with the queen of heaven, Zeus' own wife Hera, and is cast into the stars forever as punishment. Cheerful tale.

I'm also fond of Orpheus & Eurydice...

Peace to you.

My favorite Greek myth is that of Athena and Arachne. Although Arachne was the great weaver she was foolish enough to be boastful about it even going as far to say she was better than Athena, patron goddess of handicrafts. From her boastful words she was forced into having a weaving contest with the angered Goddess. After portraying in her weaving images of how the immortals were living sinful lives, Athena struck Arachne on the head. With this final insult Arachne hung herself. Athenea saddened by the death of this talented yet vain girl decided that she should go on weaving and that's how we ended up with the spider of arachnids.

Athena was also the purity goddess or "virgin" goddess and, in a strange side note, her temple was converted to that of another virgin once Christianity swept Athens.

As for me, I have a special kinship for Nemesis. A sometimes listless persona who simply doled out justice for good and evil without much emotion attached...

I love Prometheus. Several aspects of his story appeal to me. He defied the authority and tyranny of the gods. Cool. He braved the danger of that defiance (and ended up paying the price). Cool. He gave fire (back) to mankind to help them (or maybe just to piss Zeus off, either way). Cool. I've always thought of him as representing science and scientists, trying to help mankind, but often at the cost of unintended consequences and complications. The relationship to Pandora represents one such. That aspect of the story is funny too, and even more so because it is a lot of fun to tease women with it. We can talk about Frankenstein here too. Love the book, love the classic movies. When I was young I used to fantasize about being a mad scientist, transforming myself into the shape of a giant black panther, and through the use of mad science and superpowers, trying to help people and make a better world; I called myself Prometheus. On top of it all, my favorite song, of all time is Gods of Wrath, by Metal Church, a tune about Prometheus. I could go on about other details, and mankind and science in general, but I've already blabbed enough, sorry, but you asked. Thanks.

Cupid. He is not the chubby baby angel that seems to be popular around Valentines Day. He is a god of love and sex. Described as a handsome youth, a young man. And yes he does have wings.
