My family and I just got a new german shepherd puppy, and my cat is not too happy about it. Every time she sees him she hisses at him, her hair stands up, and it would not be unlikely for her to claw him. We already had one german shepherd when we got her as a kitten, and she did fine with him. I don't know what to do, and I do not want her to claw his face and get his eyes on accident. What do you suggest???

I would just keep them separated for a while. Give them short, supervised visits occasionally where they can see each other, but probably not touch. It should go away after while although they may never be very comfortable around each other.

We went through this last year with a very spoiled cat and a new pit bull! Give the cat TIME to get used to the dog. Likely she is both scared and upset at being "displaced". Once she sees that she is still fed and loved, and that the dog means her no harm, she will TOLERATE the dog. She may never love him, but then again, my guys play a lot (my male cat is very active and is now very bonded with the now 10 month old dog) I actually cried because my cat wouldn't come lay with me, he was SO PISSED over the dog! All that goes away!
And to ease your potential guilty/worried feelings: You have gotten a buddy for your cat, she will eventually appreciate the company, just the knowledge that she is not alone even if she seems aloof. NOW, DOGS ARE VERY GOOD AT KNOWING WHO'S "FAMILY" AND WILL RESPECT THE CAT.
BE AWARE OF THE CLAWS. ONE GOOD HOOK AND THE PUP'S EYES COULD BE WOUNDED. GOOD LUCK!

This is how cats and dogs act towards each other at first. You are going to have to allow them time together to get used to each other. Some hissing and clawing is normal. Eventually, they will learn to live with each other.

Just give her a little bit of time to get used to him and actually when she hisses at him I would maybe even yell at her and give her a little tap just so that she knows that she is doing something wrong cause of course you don't want her clawing at his face. It's probably more of a jealousy thing than anything right now so make sure you still give her lots of attention to show her that you still love her.. Hope this helps!

The cat is showing dominance. Let your cat and the puppy work it out themselves. Usually, the puppy will go limp when the cat tries to strike or claw it, and they will both figure out the balance on their own.

I suggest giving the cat lots of loving attention.
Many people, including myself, have both a
dog and a cat with no problem. Your cat may
be feeling jealous.

i had my cat declawed for this reason. the cat was still really mad about the dog, but they grew to be able to stand being around each other after a few weeks. the cat is probably just territorial.
