Protein is separate from, fats, carbs and sugars. You must have protein and fats and some complex carbs, but you can live without sugar. Calories are irrelevant. Otherwise, why could a person on the Atkins diet eat 3000 calories a day of fats and proteins are still lose a record amount of weight? "It puts the body into shock" -- don't believe it! Sugar is toxic to the body, otherwise it wouldn't be addicting. Believe me, you can live without sugar.

D) None of the above. Although protein can be broken down by the body for calories, it is not fat, sugar or carbohydrate. Its best use is to build muscle and rebuild tissues. Best to consult a chart that tells how many grams of protein you need per day for your target body weight and eat only that much. Protein can substitute for making calories but fat, and carbohydrates (sugar is a carbohydrate) cannot do the job of rebuilding tissue.
