My best friend is a Jehova's Witness and her and her mom go out, but her Grandma doesn't go out door to door much anymore. My friend mentioned that she has to do the door to door business as some type of respect-type thing I guess, its more of a teenager-30s type thing. Her Grandma already did the good deed enough now she just teaches the others about stuff and everything. I know this sounds really broad and I could be wrong but thats what my best friend said!

Preaching the good news about the Kingdom is a Christian obligation (for those who are young and old). True Christians' lives and the lives of those around them depend on it. We should consider Paul's words and example:
"If, now, I am declaring the good news, it is no reason for me to boast, for necessity is laid upon me. Really, woe is me if I did not declare the good news!" -- 1 Corinthians 9:16
"... I have become all things to people of all sorts, that I might by all means save some. But I do all things for the sake of the good news, that I may become a sharer of it with [others]." -- 1 Corinthians 9:22,23
Since young Witnesses have more energy of course they are more active in the field service than those who are old.
"O God, you have taught me from my youth on,
And until now I keep telling about your wonderful works." -- Psalm 71:17

Simply because it is meant by the Jehovah's Witnesses to be done by their youthful believers when they become adults. It's like the Mormons who encourage their youths to be missionaries for two years spreading their faith here & in foreign countries. It's part of the church's expectations.

ALL Jehovah's Witnesses preach.
They preach up until they breathe their last.
Many older ones who cannot get out preach by telephone or letter writing. So that's why you don't see them at your door.

the older people 'work the streets' outside subway stops, busy intersections, etc, where they don't have to walk too much, and are near coffee shops (that is how you know they are not Mormons, that and no bicycles)

there are people of all ages, but the most important issue is that that group of young people are out of drugs, sex and smoke or abuse of alcohol, thousands of them are away of that.
