It seems a great many people do. What I wonder is how often it is just an excuse. Remember Flip Wilson's Geraldine: "The devil made me do it! The devil made me buy this dress!"

My Steve used to refer to my temper tantrums as "demon attacks." This helped me separate them from myself, so I wasn't so depressed when it came time to apologize. However, once I started apologizing, he'd point out that it was my responsibility to resist the demon.

I now take this as metaphor, but it was a useful one.
