I looked around and there were lots of questions on this but none of them helped. I need a good, free video editor for Windows that can take out sections of videos and clip videos and such. It doesn't have to have anything fancy with tons of effects and stuff. I've tried Windows Movie Maker (crashes when I try to open large files), VirtualDub (saves everything in AVI and then I have to take the time to convert everything back to mpeg), and Avidemux (won't save any of my files properly for some reason) and they all don't work.

I need it to take out the commercials on some TV shows I've recorded on my computer in MPEG format. They are all around an hour long each so I need an editor that can handle big files.

As you have found out, most of the free video editors have one problem or another.

Rather than spending any more of your time experimenting or searching for something, why not just buy a good program?

amazon.com sells Adobe Premiere Elements for $85 (USD). Which is not very much money given how much time it can save you.
