I mean, if we do, that should include all religions. So that means that Pagans and Wiccans should be able to hold a circle, right? and all other religions should have their moment of prayer. Man this is going to take up a lot of time, when they could BE LEARNING!

it's not.
the media just blows everything out of proportion.
nobody really cares about prayer in public school, but it detracts from any meaningful debate.

Wiccans can pray in school. The only people that can't are christians. I don't think there should be mandatory prayer time, or a moment of silence, but if the pagans or wiccans can have a class club after school, why can't the christians? They claimed to banish all religion from school and other public places, but they actually only replaced the religion that most of the people in the World believe with the official government religion. That's called secular humanism, supported by a supposed "scientific" theory called Evolution. Of course, to believe in evolution, you have to have way more faith than someone who believes in God.
I would be happy if they just told the whole truth, and stopped lying to the kids. Calling evolution science is a lie. They should show the problems with it, and then let the kids decide for themselves.

In all things we do, sincerity and honesty are very important. No point praying every day and we still continue to tell lies everyday to relatives and friends, or to cheat, steal and harm others. Prayers of whatever kind, help to focus one's mind and heart, and bring us closer to the Supreme Being, whatever is the name. Prayers should never take up so much time, energy and hassle that we have no quality time left with our family and our work. We must never take compulsory times and days for prayers as an excuse to escape from certain critical tasks more important than prayers.

From 1775 to 1969 the public school system was run by the Federal Government. Prayer and the bible had always been ap art of the school system. In pioneer days the bible was one of the books used by schools to teach children to read. The bibles were Federal Government issue and stamped inside (my mother still has her bible from school) When Madaline Murray Ohare got the bible taken out of the public school system along with prayer, that was the start to the down fall of one of the greatest education systems in the world and the down fall of mankind. If you go back in time, America used to be the top country for education, not any longer.

I've wondered that myself. When I was a kid, we *did* have prayers in the public schools. We were all required to say the Lord's Prayer and read at least ten bible verses a day -- usually from the New Testament.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression that, when people say they want prayer back in school, they mean *Christian* prayer. And that truly would be state-sponsored religion, which of course is unconstitutional.

Those who want teacher-led prayer in school feel that they need the government to help them reinforce and spread their religion. They must be pretty insecure about their beliefs.
Today, prayer of all types is allowed in school, both individual and in groups or clubs, as long as it is not teacher-led (i.e. sponsored by the government) and as long as it is not disruptive to the educational process. Christians and Wiccans can both pray every day if they want.

Because the transmission of cultural values is crucial in education, and we are raising a generation of children where only 22% have a mom and a dad!!!!The values which built this civilization have almost disappeared; and as they do so, so will your wealth. I could go on but what's the point? You actually think that all religions are equal. Here is a simple test of your illiteracy.
The American Civil War began in the year ______________?
The Declaration of Independence was written in the year _____________
American involvement in World War I began in __________?
America was attacked by ____________ on December 7th, __________?
I will bet you that you cannot even answer one of these correctly. Say hello to McD's for me.
By the way, students who attend church on a regular basis do better in school. There is a correlation there! Bet you don't. Bet you never have.

It's not important. However, some schools do allow the "prayer club." When I joined, I found that most of the teenagers there were not really sure about their faith or their religion, they joined just so they could be able to have something to add to their college application. Basically, prayer in schools in an adult thing, even though they are not the ones attending school.

You are very wise to realize this. Prayer isn't important, the right to pray is. And you're also correct that all religions should be addressed, or none. And here in the US we need all the classroom time we can get. We rank about number 20 in the world as far as education.

No-one can stop an individual from saying a silent prayer whenever they want where-ever they are. Hey dummy who thumbed me down, just tell me how you could stop an individual from saying a silent prayer, just shows how much knowledge you have , or really, lack of. It's called, freedom of expression and freedom of religion, you would be trying to suppress an individual's constitutional rights. If you don't like that, move to an atheist country.
