I know vodka can do that , not much holy about that!
Now this holy thingy, is without any doubt a very large heap of BS!. BUT I do think that some folk can be brainwashed so they believe this sort of cr*p , if a a child you are taught that committing a deadly sin, (like picking your nose on a Sunday) will result in an angel giving you a fit, then it could happen, you are picking your nose on Sunday and zap there you go, having a fit because you realize this must happen, you have been naughty and must pay the price.
People have to be really gullible to let themselves be talked into all that BS!!
To day is Sunday am picking my nose, no problem!!!!
Hang on I can hear a flapping sound?? Im sorry, I promise I will never do this again!!!
Oh it's OK my canary got out of his cage again. I thought I was a goner there for a few secs!!!

I didn't tremble and fall down, but I did cry out in anguish in my situation and end of the rope, and felt as if someone grabbed my shoulders and pushed me to the floor of my living room as if saying "show some respect" and felt God lift all of my pain from my shoulders and was overwhelmed by the weight lifted. This is real, this is a humbling experience that really happened, not some BS you dismiss as not being for your benefit. Listen. Search. Find. It is the spirit that even asks you to begin to search, so in searching He has led you to search because He has led you to find. So you will.

I'm sorry, after reading all of these answers, I can see why you are fed up. Maybe people should answer honestly instead of sarcastically (and I am actually a sarcastic person normally). Have faith and I wish you the best. My prayers are with you for unbiased guidance.

If the holy spirit comes upon you, it's a sudden and strong push toward God so that Truth overwhelms a person who is not prepared for it. It's like getting grace. Some people stay in a position they never move from for a long time because of the power of the sudden realization of the path to God.

That only really occurs among Pentecostals. Funny thing is, each Pentecostal church has it's own idiosyncratic 'holy-fits. The similarities differ between each denomination.

People are gullible and easily led. If having a hissy little holy-fit is the expected thing to do at the church you go to, then you can guarantee that everyone will be having them in no time at all. And, they'll all be very similar to the people around you. For instance, people speaking in tongues use reorganized phonemes from their native language, even inflecting according to their accent.

He doesn't, necessarily. That may depend on some people's emotional makeup, or what they are expecting to happen. However, exceptionally, it can happen that a person is so overcome by the Holy Spirit's working in their hearts that they feel weak. Something like falling in love!
EDIT:
James, even when I was a young non-believer I used to get upset at that fake stuff. I felt people were making fun of God, and were playing on people's faith. It still makes me mad.

The Holy Spirit only makes Pentecostals fall down. He makes Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterians sit quietly in church.

Voodoo practitioners exhibit similar behaviors when they're being"ridden by their Loa". a Loa is a divine spirit that overtakes the practitioner, inhabits the practitioner's body and then performs magical rituals using the body as a vehicle.
