I followed a recipe, then when they turned out horrible, I looked for other recipes, and they were all very similar. I have had fantastic Spritz cookies, so why were mine so bad when I followed the recipe? My mother told me it was probably because I used generic store brand butter.....

Spritz are a straight-up easy cookie...just don't overcook them.
Use good quality ingredients and follow the directions.

Good luck.

real butter, or margarine? If it was margarine then that's probably it.

If the butter wasn't expired, or stored near strong flavor foods like onions or fish, it shouldn't matter that it was generic store brand.

It might have been the butter, it could have also been a bad bag of flour.
