Does the tip go in the mail box? I live in an apartment, and i don't think he can see inside the mailbox - he just opens the top and throws mail in the slots (hard to explain).
So how do i give the tip to him? And how much ? On which day?
He's delivered a lot of packages up the stairs, and they work hard this time of year, but i never knew you're supposed to tip them until someone told me i was supposed to.

If you feel in your opinion you have a good mailman, then do what you is right.

My mailman is a lazy SOB in my opinion. We have one of the mailboxs at the curbs so he don't have to walk the block. I do a lot of ebay stuff so i get a lot of packages via USPS. The man will show up at my mailbox, see I havethe package, then sit there for 5 minutes and write out the form where you have to go to the post office to pick up the package. Yes the one they leave when they GET OUT of the car and knock on your door and no one answers.

He has done this while I was even outside. After I confronted him about it, he actually, for whatever reason possessed him, will make out the forms before he even gets to my house. So when he gets to my mailbox, he leaves the form in the box with the rest of mail without having to sit in front of the box.

LAZY AND NO BONUS FOR HIM!!!!!! He did this 71 times this year!!

I tip my mailman. I have two dogs that he puts up with every day, I believe he deserves it! According to postal regulations, I don't think they are allowed to accept anything over $20 or $20 in value. You could call your local post office and ask about your situation with the slots. I try to catch him on my day off if I can, so I can make sure it's my regular guy. (I put either $20 cash or a gift certificate in a little Christmas card addressed to 'the mailman'.)

I've never heard of giving a tip to the mail person. They work too fast and probably will miss the cash. But next time you see them, just say thank you for delivering your mail.

You're not "supposed" to, but some people like to. I know they all make way more than me, so I never do. The accepted practice is to hand it to them, but that's assuming you're there when they come up. Believe me, postal workers are generally very well compensated for their jobs, unlike other people who deliver things as a part of their jobs.

No, you do not tip the mailman. It is nice to give them a small present at Xmas or Thanksgiving, like a bottle of wine.

Idon't know about anyone else but I usually give it directly to the mail women. I usually give her a card with some scratch-off lottery tickets inside.

Call your local post office and explain your story. They'll help you get your gift to him somehow. Getting a gift card for $10-20 is the best idea.
