The Quran:

[Shakir 5:51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

[Shakir 4:46] Of those who are Jews (there are those who) alter words from their places… Allah has cursed them on account of their unbelief, so they do not believe but a little.

[Shakir 4:160] Wherefore for the iniquity of those who are Jews did we disallow to them the good things which had been made lawful for them and for their hindering many (people) from Allah's way.

That is really sad!!! I have read the Catholic bibles and regular christian bibles and never found a verse like that. God made us all different as part as some big plan for us in the next world. It's the way we treat each other. Every single race, color, Religion, atheist, that is how we will be judged. God never made people to hate people he made!!

We are all called to love!!!

Never take anything for its face value.

Those who recognize the Truth are not tricked by putting up poor translations of Koran. Not to mention, Bible is equally violent - I took more than 3-years to complete the Old Testament, cover to cover reading, comparing it with Koran.

This reading of Bible has also made me aware of some loopholes in it but being a Believer in God Almighty I would never do such a thing to mislead masses by misrepresenting the facts, or verse to be exact.

You are doing it for the reason best known to you but you must know it is a sin, especially when it is about The Most High.

Muslims are bound & our Messenger never made us exempted from sins and I am not willing to take chances on hereafter as in order to succeed there I have to be a Righteous, Upholding justice, Truthful, and there are so many other obligations on me as a Muslim.

You must know that this question of your was a hurt!

Holy books have some good advice but also have some crazy shhhh. I read my bible and came across a part that mention you should kill the person who raps your sister and kill those who are found with him. Made my eye brow raise. Muslims blow themselves up, Catholics cant trust their priests, Mormons have leaders marrying the men to six women and perhaps one of them being under aged. No religion is perfect. As long as there are some confussed, uneducated minds out there seeking enlightenment from their religion to feel at ease within themselves and following their holy book to the last word your answer to "can muslims be friends of christians and jews?" is no. However, there can be an exception for some individuals. If you can avoid belittling someone because of their religion and just see people as complete equals with you, if you can ignore each other's race, religion, cutlure and completely respect each other's opinions then muslims might be able to befriend jews and christians. I personally know two people who have become successful business partners and friends. One's a Jew and the other is Muslim.

Of course, how would Islam grow if you were not allowed to befriend non-muslims and show them the straight path? I would have no social life if this were true, because I live in a completely non-religous community. But I am friends with many Atheists. EDIT: Batman you're an idiot, read my first point. How exactly did Islam grow and grow to the second largest if not largest religion in the world? Through friendship and trust and faith in Allah. You sound like your horrible to everyone who doesn't agree with you. May Allah help you.

They are not supposed to be. It also says in the Quran that if the infidels do not convert they are to be killed. Can't remember the exact verse. If people think they are a peaceful people they are dead wrong. They are not tought to be. This will be the reason for WWIII between the Christians and Muslims but once again like the Crusades. There so called Allah must be some Deity for the Christian God loves ALL people....ALL of them no matter who they are. Our God teaches love, not violence and our prophet was NOT a pedophile either like there prophet Muhammed. Let the truth be spread and told to all. Truth is truth and the Muslims will always be the enemies of Christians but only because of them, not us.

I quote below the answer by Muhamma to such a question.

[Shakir 5:51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

This verse translated by some translators to mean “Do not take Jews and Christians as Friends in preference to fellow Muslims”. Take note of the word "friends" a translation of the Quranic word (aawaliya). Which means partners, protector etc. and not friends.

If you look at our prophet, he had many christian and Jewish friends. A common God would not discourage men to become friends irrespective of religion! I contend. If you do research on the translations for the word awaliya. WAli is your controller or a softer translation is patron or protector.

Now this verse starts making sense, when God revealed this verse he was warning against having them as wali, not sadiq (Friend).

“Do not take Jews and Christians as your patrons /“awalliya” in preference to fellow Muslims”. That is a wise piece of advice but it does not mean that you can’t. What God is saying here is that it would not be wise for a Muslim country to take the Pope or President Bush as its patron for example. Likewise it does not make sense for Spain or America to let Saudi Arabia to be its patron and protector (Wali).

Nations and people are free to engage each other irrespective of the religion it profess. Treaties, contracts, agreements govern relationship between man and nations irrespective of religion. You should be ready to engage. You can be a Christian a Jew or an Islamist or Hindu or Buddhist. We can be friends. Brothers and sisters in humanity.

If now you look at these verses it will prove the translation of these misguided translaters is wrong, the proof is not only from the Quran but from the sunnah of the prophet and his conducts. God says:

Surely, those who believe and the Jews and the Christians and the Sabians - whichever party from among these truly believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds, shall have their reward with their Lord, and no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.

They are not all alike. Among the People of the Book, there is a party who stand by their covenant; they recite the word of Allah in the hours of the night and prostrate themselves before Him.

In another verse Allah sys in the Quran "This day all good things have been made lawful for you. And the food of the people of the Book is lawful for you. And your food is lawful for them. And lawful for you are chaste believing women and chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you, when you give them their dowries, contracting valid marriage and not committing fornication, nor taking secret paramours. And whoever rejects the faith, his work indeed is vain, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.

So you can sit with them eat with them, laugh, joke, make friends show the real peaceful nature of Islam. Spread the true message of Islam. Which always starts with in the name of God the most merciful.

Religion is a wonderful thing, in the hands of people intelligent enough to follow it. If you're too Muslim or too Christian or too Jewish, then you'll hate everyone, because literal interpretation of the Bible, the Koran, and the Torah make it seem like that is what is right. You have to understand the history and the Books themselves, and know that not everything can be read as-is. Sometimes faith has to guide your choices, too.
